Mary Beth's Fishing Report:

May 18, 2013

We've been at Hell Creek for a couple of weeks now and the fishing has been great. May 11th Recep Avci & Jerry Lapeyre caught an 8.8# walleye while fishing with Mary Beth. May 13 Hurbert Wagoner, who is 81 years young, caught a 7.8# walleye while fishing with Myron. On May 11, our guide, Jim Muzynoski was fishing with friends and made the long run to Fourchette. The long boat ride proved worth it as they caught 3 walleye between 28" - 30 1/2". The northern pike are very plentiful this year with catches averaging 5-10 lbs. Occationally, someone brings in a big one! The small mouth bass are also doing great. We've caught several this past week between 2.8- the largest at 4# 12 oz.

Though our summer is getting pretty booked up, we do still have a few dates available. To reserve your guide just give us a call at 406-557-2503 or email us at kibler@midrivers.com. We'll get back to you if you'll leave us a phone number and a brief message.

We have the camper backed up to the house so I can load everything for the move to the lake…it won't be long now till our 2013 fishing season is in full swing.

The results of the April 20th, Tough Guy Tournament at Hell Creek, promises a great start to the year. Joe Herbold told me that 11 of the 34 teams participating in the tournament caught a limit of 5 measurable walleye. Congratulations to Kane Mury & Chris Kwasney on their win with a 30 1/3" walleye and a total combined length of 103.75" on 5 walleye. Bill and Willie Green had the second biggest walleye at 26.5", but they didn't get it verified. Local fishermen Clyde & Brem Phipps placed 2nd with 101.25 total length on 5 walleye.

There were 7 northern pike over 30" caught, the biggest was 42.5" by team Taylor Kennedy & Tyler Trogden. Most of the walleye were caught on a jig tipped with a minnow in 9 - 15 ' of water. The water temperatures varied from one report of 50° toward Timber Creek and 40° in the Sutherland area.

It's 64 degrees and wind, which is cutting the snow banks and ice. Hell Creek has been 'walk on ice only' since May 3 and today it has opened up along the banks enough you could cast a line out at Boy Scout Point! We'll now begin the countdown till ice out!

January 14, 2013

The cold snap, wind & snow this past week has kept even die hard ice fishermen home from fishing on Fort Peck. Our forecast is for warmer weather for the upcoming week. It's a good idea to have chains, a scoop shovel, tow ropes and travel in pairs when headed out fishing on the west end of Fort Peck as the road drifts making travel difficult. Reports from over a week ago tell of 5" of solid ice and with the subzero temperatures of the past week the ice is probably thicker now.

January 19, is the Clinton Phipps Memorial Ice Fishing Derby. Contact Jodi Pierson at 406-557-2802 for information and to enter.

The road into Hell Creek is good traveling. The following is the most recent report from Hell Creek Marina:

"January 13, 2013 - Ice update: 8 to 10 inches on the bay and onto the main lake going west. Please stop at the marina for safety information if you are going to Sutherland. It is possible but only by certain routes.

January 11, 2013 - There is 7 to 8 inches of ice on the bay and 5 to 7 inches on the main lake. The ice gets thinner as you go east. Pay attention to pressure ridges and avoid them. A few more walleye showing up and the northern are really biting."

Hell Creek Marina is sponsoring their Ice fishing tournament again this year, February 2, 2013. To get details on this tournament go to www.HellCreekMarina.com or call 406-557-2345.

We are booking our spring & summer months. To reserve your dates give us a call at 406-557-2503 or email us at kibler@midrivers.com .

Stay safe and good fishing! Mary Beth
