Fort Peck Lake Trout
Big Lake trout are a deep-water species through most of the year and timing is important to get in on the hot bites. For lake trout, that hot bite begins right when the ice goes off in spring and continues for the next month or so in the Hell Creek area. There's also a good late fall bite for lake trout. During both time periods, you long-line deep-diving crankbaits and typically hit fish in 20 to 30 feet of water. We normally fish out of the Hell Creek area (25 miles north of Jordan) for early ice off and fall lake trout when they are shallower than usual along with walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass. The dam area has full RV hookups at the marina and campgrounds are excellent. The Lakeridge Motel is convenient to the dam: 406-526-3597, while Glasgow services are 17 miles from the dam.
Hell Creek State Park provides a great camping area with drinking water, showers, RV dump and fish cleaning station. The Hell Creek Marina has full comfort cabins, meals and tackle. Motels and other services are located in Jordan, 25 miles away. Of course, you'll also get to enjoy Fort Peck's fabulous spring and fall scenery and wildlife. All in all, it's one of the great fishing adventures in the lower 48 states that virtually anyone can enjoy. It will be our pleasure to provide a great trip for you. |
